Each year, one hundred or more amateur rockhounds come to Mount Ida to compete in this dig in the “Quartz Crystal Capital of the World.” This competition is for everyone; Adults, Young Minors, and Clubs. All amateur quartz crystal diggers are invited to enter! This two-day dig will be held on September 24th and 25th, 2021.
- Entrants may dig at their choice of Twin Creek Crystal Mine, Upper and Lower Mines.
- Participants get to keep all the crystals they find and submit their best point and cluster each day to compete for crystal adorned award plaques and prize money.
- Awards are presented during a celebration held Saturday evening
Open to diggers 18 years of age and older. Awards presented in two categories; points and clusters.
Open to diggers 17 years of age and under. Awards presented in one category, points and clusters combined. A parent or legal guardian must accompany minors while digging. Minors must dig their own crystals.
Members of gem & mineral or rockhounding clubs can compete against rival clubs for bragging rights and a chance to win a free entry into next year’s dig. Be sure to lists your club name on the entry form!
Awards & Prizes
Prize money is awarded in three categories: Points, Clusters, and Young Miners.
1st-3rd place winners in each category receive a quartz crystal adorned award plaque.
1st-5th place winners are awarded cash prizes.
Awards and prizes are presented during the Awards Celebration on Saturday evening.
